OUR STORY

The problem of human trafficking is huge, the resources are slim, and the devastation is profound. The magnitude of the problem is almost paralyzing… where do you even begin? We believe we need to begin where we are and with what we have.

For us, that’s a dream and a tea shop.   We may not be able to tackle the entire trafficking industry, but we can begin to make a difference one cup, one story, one life at a time.

The seeds of HumaniTea began as passion to address the modern day tragedy of human trafficking.  To that end, HumaniTea was envisioned to become a tea room and artisan gift shop that brings together responsibly sourced teas and quality gifts obtained from local and global crafters who play a role in trafficking prevention and recovery.

HumaniTea's profits are re-invested into anti-trafficking efforts.  You will enjoy both quality products and the knowledge that your dollars are making a difference in a significant way.

HumaniTea uses the income from our store to support Ziva Network, a Ludington-based human trafficking organization that helps people impacted by human trafficking to find healing and restoration.

Carmen Biggs

Owner

Serving as president of HumaniTea, Inc., Carmen is a jack-of-all-trades and master of none.  Pretty much, she's trying to figure out how to best navigate this crazy, thrilling, terrifying ride that is leading her to make a difference in the world of human trafficking survivors.  Carmen brings a background in education, ministry, and small business ownership to the table.  She holds a bachelor's degree in Education, a graduate certification in Missional Theology, and a master's degree in Leadership Development.  In all of that, she's learned enough to know that loving God and loving people matters most.  At the end of the day, that's the best contribution she hopes to bring to the table.

Chris Turnbull

Owner

Chris is the vice president of HumaniTea, Inc.  For years, he has nurtured a passion to address the tragedy of human trafficking and HumaniTea is one step toward that end.  The guiding principles of his life come from Micah 6:8 which inspire him to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.

Chris enjoys a good dose of dark humor and loves to live life to the fullest. He brings a background in ministry and the domestic violence field and holds a master's degree in leadership development.  In addition to his time at HumaniTea, Chris works as an Emergency Medical Technician.  At his core, he simply wants his life to make a difference in this world.
